Lockerbie Claims Victory Over Border Reivers in Friendly Squash Match

Last week witnessed an exhilarating clash between Lockerbie and the Border Reivers in what has become a bi-annual tradition for the clubs. With Lockerbie recently clinching the Dumfries and Galloway League title and the Border Reivers securing the Champions spot in East of Scotland League 3, anticipation was high as both teams entered the friendly match brimming with confidence.

The closely contested match saw Lockerbie emerge victorious this time around. The individual results were as follows: David Lindsay 0-3 Tony Elliot, Stuart Wylie 0-3 Michael Currie, Robbie Carter 3-1 Richard Taylor, Craig Bourner 3-0 Del Sharratt, Stuart Garner 3-0 Darren Quinn, and Logan Jarvis 2-3 Del Sharratt, with Border Reivers’ Captain Del Sharratt filling in at sixth seed due to Oliver Currie’s last-minute withdrawal and putting up a fierce fight that extended to the deciding game.

Following the match, Lockerbie Captain Dave Lindsay orchestrated a delightful post-match feast, which was eagerly devoured by the Border Reivers players amidst lively banter. Over the past couple of years, these two clubs have fostered a strong camaraderie, evident in the jovial atmosphere that enveloped the evening.

Looking ahead, both teams eagerly anticipate a rematch at Galashiels Squash Club before the commencement of the East League season, aiming to hone their team dynamics and keep the competitive spirit alive.

Reflecting on the significance of such friendly encounters, Del Sharratt expressed, “It’s fantastic that we can have matches like this outside of the league fixtures. With Galashiels being the only squash club in the Borders, it can be challenging to interact with players from other clubs without the intense competitive league games. Both teams thoroughly enjoy this fixture, and there’s no shortage of members willing to step up and participate. Hopefully, this inter-club relationship will endure for many years to come.”

The clash between Lockerbie and the Border Reivers not only showcased their competitive prowess but also underscored the importance of fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship within the squash community.
