REIVERS OFF TO WINNING START

DUNBAR V BORDER REIVERS
The Border Reivers First away match of the season took them to East Lothian and the Seaside town of Dunbar.  It wasn’t a waste of journey for the Borderers as they took the Victory 13-7.

Richard Taylor 3-1 Keith Nicolson
This was Richard Taylors Debut for the Border Reivers and he made sure he got off to a winner.  Taylor was a last minute Call-Up for regular Player Jordan Reid who called off for personal reasons.  Taylor was excited for his first match and although nerves took a hold in the first game, once Taylor settled into his rhythm he produced some awesome squash.  Nicolson took the first 15-7 but a more relaxed Taylor cleaned up 15-11, 15-13, 15-10 for 3-1 victory.

Matt Gibbs 1-3 Martin Campbell
This was a very evenly matched game, and Matt could have got more out of it but for small margins. The players shared the spoils in the first two games.  Campbell claiming the opener 15-7 then Gibbs taking the next in a similar fashion 15-5;  Gibbs just couldn’t relax in the games and possibly the early season pressure was still present and Campbell took a couple of close games 15-12 and 16-14 to win 3-1 and tie the match

Del Sharratt 0-3 Jane Cunningham
This was the second time this pair had squared up in the East Leagues, with Jane Cunningham proving too good on both occasions.  Dunbars Cunningham won 15-12, 15-13, 15-3.  Most of Sharratt’s points came from his powerful serve and volleys, but when Cunningham took the hand in the third she wasn’t missing much and her superior placement was too good for Sharratt, this is one match Sharratt will look to forget!

Sam Collin 3-0 James Berry
Collin, another to make his debut for the Reivers, also didn’t disappoint.  Collin has East League experience from his days playing for Grange but this is his first season for current Club Border Reivers and was itching to get involved.  Berry is a decent player but Collin just proved too skillful, too fit and too fast and managed a clean sweep for 3-0 (15-11, 15-8, 15-7).

Tony Elliot 3-0 James Cunningham
Reivers regular top seed Elliot started this season where he finished the last – a terrifyingly good performance culmulating in a 3-0 victory. Cunningham gave as good as he could but couldn’t live with the Squash from Elliot, this was 15-7, 15-5, 15-6 to secure the Match Victory for the Border Reivers.
