Galashiels Squash Coach bags Commonwealth Bronze

A Big Congratulations to Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart for their Bronze Medal for Scotland in the Squash doubles at Birmingham 2022, a comprehensive 2-1 victory over Malaysia earned the Bronze.  Rory Stewart is Coach at Galashiels Squash Club and the whole Club have been rooting for him.

Rory has had a grueling schedule and played almost Daily for the last 2 weeks; including taking Former World No. 1 and Defending Commonwealth Champion to a deciding game in the Quarter finals.

But his medal with Scotland No.1 Greg Lobban makes the hard work all worth while.  I struggle after playing squash for two days in a row never mind 14 days in a row, the Achievement can’t be Bigged up enough – this isn’t like a seasoned Athlete winning in track and field with lots of funding and backing, Rory and Greg have got there through sheer determination and effort.  Hopefully this will inspire other Juniors in the Borders to take up Racket Sports. There are a couple of Juniors in the Gala Squash Club who get regular Coaching from Rory Stewart and they can tell there pals they get coached off a Commonwealth Medalist and maybe encourage other kids to get involved in squash.

This year has been Rory’s best year so far with reaching the Final in the National Championships, Clinching the Peterborough Open title and being Unbeaten at the European Team Championships.  Indeed Rory enjoyed success against Higher ranked opponents in Birmingham and this can only propel Rory onto bigger and better things and I look forward to seeing him thrive against the Worlds Top Ranked players n the PSA Tour.  I hope Rory coaches at Galashiels for many years to come.
