GALASHIELS COACH THRIVES AT NATIONALS

Galashiels Squash Club Coach, 26 year old Rory Stewart has just picked up the Silver in the Scottish National Squash Championships.  Rory comes in a rich vein of form, recently rising to no. 67 in the World Rankings and returned from the European Team Championships unbeaten.
Rory’s biggest scalp was the semi-final Victory over Multiple time National Champion Allan Clyne, Clyne is ranked over 20 places above Stewart in the World Rankings and doesn’t often get beaten at the National Championships; but Stewart defied the ranking to take his First ever victory over Clyne 3-1, Rory Stewart just remained 100% focussed and played some superb squash to win the tie.  This set up the Final between Rory Stewart (WR 67) and Scotland No. 1 Gregg Lobban (WR 34); Gregg Lobban entered this tournament off the Back of Triumphing in the Irish Open and was oozing confidence.
Lobban took the first game 11-3 as he looked to stamp his superiority on the match, but Stewart replied with a Flawless performance in the 2nd game and took it 11-6 for 1-1, this set the tone for the remainder of the match as there was almost nothing separating the two, Lobban just got the rub of the court and won 3-1 (11-3, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9).
Gala Squash Club Coach Rory Stewart was happy with the way he played but he just met Lobban in the Form of his life and Lobban proved too strong.
Gala Squash Club Captain Del Sharratt said, “Wow, Rory Stewart was awesome – beating Allan Clyne was a Major Victory for Rory, that’s his first victory against the Higher ranked Clyne and it will propel Rory to greater things – I can only see him getting better and better from here.  Gala Squash Club are Fortunate to have the service of Rory Stewart, Rory provides coaching for members at all levels in the club and Juniors and Seniors alike and the whole Club was rooting for him.  I am sure it won’t be too long until we see Rory Stewart as National Champion and beyond!  Rory is also representing Scotland in the Commonwealth games in Birmingham and I reckon he is in with a Great shout for a medal!  Go Rory”
