BORDER REIVERS v CRAIGSHILL XCITE
There are always close games when these two teams meet; and after Xcite’s victory at their own patch in Livingston before Christmas the Border Reivers got payback this time.
In the first rubbers, Reivers Veteran Iain Laing took a hard fought victory against an opponent over 30 years his junior in Euan McIver, Laing won 3-1 but the biggest gap was 15-10 and each game could have went either way, a close match in squash style made for a highly entertaining match.
On court 2 was Graeme Gillie v Kenny Aiston – this one went the distance, Reivers Gillie took a 2-0 lead only for Xcite’s Aiston to bring it back to 2-2, but Aiston ahd used up all his energy and just faded in the deciding game and Gillie took it comfortably 15-4 for 3-2. Jordan Reid squared up against old foe Phil Brown – in the reverse fixture brown had conquered Reid 3-2 in a highly controversial match. This one was no less exciting and the referee was kept on his toes with several let and stroke calls being awarded. Jordan was delighted to take the victory this time and get one over the More experienced Phil. Reivers victory was capped off with Tony Elliot and a comfortable 3-0 victory against Iain McIver and a clean sweep for the borderers.
