BORDERS BATTLE

BORDER REIVERS v DUNBAR

In the East Leagues Battle of the Borders teams, it was the Border Reivers hailing from Galashiels that triumphed.
The Reivers opened with Graeme Gillie demolishing Dunbar Stalwart Keith Nicholson 3-0 in a fairly straight forward game; Gillie was faster and fitter and Nicholson just couldn’t cope with the pace of Gillie.  Then Jordan Reid took a 2nd rubber for the Reivers with just as convincing a display against Dunbar Captain Tom Burns.
The First point for Dunbar came for James Berry against Adam MacKay; Reivers MacKay was slow to get going and lost the first game 15-4, Berry must have thought he was on a winner here but after giving himself a good talking to MacKay got back to his usual self  and won the next 15-5, 15-9, 15-4.
In the Top Seed Match, the Border Reivers usual dependable Tony Elliot met a formidanble opponent in Peter Western; Western has only this season joined Dunbar having previously played in East League 2 for Heriot Watt Uni.  Western was just too goos and his awesome all round game ensured it wasn’t a 4-0 for the Reivers and he got past Elliot 3-0.

Scores, Reivers players first:
Tony Elliot 0-3 Peter Western (10-15, 11-15, 13-15)
Adam MacKay 3-1 James Berry (4-15, 15-5, 15-9, 15-4)
Jordan Reid 3-0 Tom Burns (15-10, 15-12, 15-9)
Graeme Gillie 3-0 Keith Nicholson (15-11, 15-6, 15-6)
