Reivers put to Sword

TYNE 2s v BORDER REIVERS

Borderers suffered only their 2nd defeat of the season at the hands of the Haddington Team.  The Border Reivers were missing several Top Players and Tyne 2S took the match 13-6 and 3-2 on rubbers.
Reivers Veteran Pat Spence answered a last minute SOS from Captain Del Sharratt as regular Piers Wilkinson called off at the last minute; Spence went down 15-10, 15-6, 15-6 and a bit of rustiness showed as Spence hadn’t played Team squash for nearly 2 years.  Reivers No. 5 – Matt Gibbs also answered the call and had a close and skillful match up against Richard Lockhart and went down 3-0.
Del Sharratt had to play as 3rd seed this week, usually 5th seed, and although the score was 3-0 against, Del didn’t feel overawed and made a good game of it.
Reivers victories came by way of Jordan Reid (3-0) and Adam McKay, who was filling in at top seed in Tony Elliot’s absence, who beat Tyne Teenager Jamie Pearman 3-1.

Team Captain Sharratt said after the match “We have been in good form of late, this defeat is disappointing but the lads gave there all and I can’t ask for more than that.  I’m expecting some first team regulars back for next week so hopefully this is just a blip.”
