Border Reivers v Deer Park
After the Border Reivers 2s secured a convincing 18-2 victory the previous night, the Borders First Team faced the pressure to return to Gala with a triumph against Deer Park. The match unfolded with intense competition, showcasing the skill and determination of both teams.
The script seemed to be written for the Borderers as the first three matches ended with a resounding 3-0 in favor of the Reivers. Jordan Reid dominated Iain McIver with a scoreline of 15-13, 16-14, 15-13, while Michael Currie showcased his prowess with a 3-0 victory over Kenny Aiston (15-7, 15-7, 15-6). Richard Hebb continued the trend with a flawless 3-0 win against Gary Holmes (15-7, 15-5, 15-11).
However, the convincing victory wasn’t to be as Sam Collin, despite the Border Reivers 2s’ success the previous night, faced a tough challenge against Sammy Caseby. Collin went down 3-1 in a match where he felt he should have emerged victorious.
In a highly anticipated clash of the number 1s, Hawick’s Tony Elliot, undefeated with a perfect 10 wins from 10 games, faced off against Euan McIver, who had steadily improved with 5 wins from 5. Elliot claimed the first game 15-11, but McIver rallied back, securing the next three games 15-8, 15-12, 15-8 to secure the points for Deer Park. The final score stood at 14-6 in favour of Border Reivers.
Club Captain Del Sharratt expressed his satisfaction, stating, “What a great week, two victories secured against Deer Park. Although the BR2s score was 18-2, both teams fought valiantly, and we all gave that extra effort with the rivalry we have. This boosts our confidence, and hopefully, we can pull off a double victory next week again.”
