Waverley 4s 2-18 Border Reivers
Piers Wilkinson 3-2 Stuart Johnston
Piers got off to a sluggish start, and was soon well on the back foot when Johnston took a 2-0 lead (15-11, 16-14), and as the game scores suggested, this was going to be a battle! Piers dug in deep and it was a couple of unforced errors by Stuart that swung the game back in the Borderers favour as Piers took the next games just as tight 15-13, 15-11. As Piers had the momentum he raced off to an early lead in the fifth game, and Johnston just couldn’t get back into it and Piers took the first rubber for the Border Reivers with 15-7 for 3-2.
Alan Jobes 3-0 Joe Burns
A recent addition to the Reivers team, Jobes took this one in straight sets. There were plenty rallies but Jobes always looked like he had that extra gear if he needed it; 15-12, 16-14, 15-9.
Richard Hebb 3-0 Nicholas Osinski
Another victory for the borders, this confirmed the Overall Victory for the team with two matches still to spare. Hebb was playing his first competitive game for the Reivers. Hebb has recently moved to the Border sbut has Vast East League experience having previously represented Grange 2s and was more than happy to get involved with the Galashiels based team. This was 15-9, 15-10, 15-8 for Hebb.
Sam Collin 3-0 Sagar Verthapak
Reivers usual top seed Tony Elliot was off with illness, so Collin had to step in at no. 1. But Collin took the challenge to his opponent and was dominant from the start. Collin just got better as the match went on and ensured a Clean Sweep of Victories for the Border Reivers. 15-12, 15-13, 15-5.
Captain Sharratt said “That cements us in 3rd place in the East League 4 now. It’s great we have so much strength in depth now and I can call on top quality, experienced League players whe nmy regulars are out. Tony has been looking behind him at Gala Squash Club but will be looking along side him soon as the quality in the club is improving. Hopefully we can kick on and are chasing 2nd place Edinburgh Sports Club now.
