LADIES SERVE UP A CLASSIC

LADIES FINAL

2022 Seen the Return of the Ladies Club Championship at Galashiels Squash Club, after a couple of years absence due to COVID.  Pamela Inglis and Lynn Palepoli, both hailing from Tweedbank, served up a Close Match.

Both Ladies had spells where they played some awesome shots and after the first couple of games, match referee Del Sharratt could tell it was going to go the distance.  Although Pamela Inglis wasn’t at the races in the first game and going down pretty convincingly 15-8, she hit back in the second and kept focussed to take it 15-6.  This then made Lynn Palepoi take notice and a real quality match was served up.  Pamela took the third 15-12 as both ladies were now well in their stride and Pamela’s footwork and quick movement helped her get to some of the shots that looked like were going past her.  The fourth game just seen Pamela tire a bit and Lynn tightened up some of the cross court shots to take the game 15-6 and the match was locked at 2-2.  The deciding game was tit for tat until about 3-3 then Lynn produced some fantastic squash and motored off to 11-5; Pamela just had too much to do and battled valiantly and pulled it back to 14-9 before Lynn pulled out a deft drop shot to take the Title.

Lynn Palepoli 3-2 Pamela Inglis (15-8, 6-15, 12-15, 15-6, 15-9.)

Club Captain and match referee Del Sharratt said, “the match swung one way then the other, these ladies both play together regularly so they know each others game.  It’s fantastic to be able to run a Ladies Championship again.  The Club runs a weekly Ladies Night on a Thursday which is enjoyed by several lady members at the club.  Both Lynn and Pamela are relatively new to squash so it is amazing to see them both compete for this prize.  Hopefully this can help encourage more ladies to take up the game.”
