Not so Xciting for Reivers

Craigshill Xcite 15-4 Border Reivers

The Borderers had a night to forget as they journeyed upto Livingston for the latest East of Scotland League Match. Having bagged a good victory last week at home, they were quietly confident of taking something from this one.

Darren Quinn, Gary Bramble and Del Sharratt all went down 3-0 to Brian Campbell, Steve Bogan and John Taylor respectively; the Reivers just weren’t at the races in these ties as Xcite seemed quicker, fitter and more consistent.

Indeed it wasn’t until the 2nd seeds took to court before the Reivers got any games on the board. This was thanks to Pat Spence, who got a single point in a 3-1 defeat to Phil Brown Spence wasn’t quite at his usual prowess but brown wasn’t quite firing on all cylinders either but the Xcite man kept his nerve and won some tight games 15-6, 16-14, 10-15, 15-8.

The Border Reivers other points were won by Tony Elliot who chalked up a 3-0 victory against Iain McIver. Tony was n control from the start, and although McIver showed glimpses of coming back into the game Tony would always have that extra yard and take the rallies when it matters. This was 15-11, 15-10, 15-4 in Tonys favour.

“I don’t know what went wrong tonight” said Reivers Captain Sharratt, “We were raring to go her but we all just had a bad night at the same time; we will just have to go over this at the club and get focussed for our match next week. We are at home next week so hopefully we can make Home Advantage count.”
